How I Became a Nudist and Joined the GoTopless Effort Through the Raelian Movement

The first thing people ask me when they find out I am a naturist is, When did you become a nudist?
The simplest way I will explain it’s that being a part of the International Raelian Movement helped me get more comfortable with my body and therefore nudity generally. Raelians believe that the body is natural and nothing to be ashamed of. We’re all distinct, unique and exquisite and should feel comfortable in our own skin.
Many are unfamiliar with or have misconceptions about the Raelian Movement in general, and so I’ll only briefly describe what it’s all about. The Raelian Movement is considered an atheist doctrine. We do not believe in a “God” that’s up in the clouds, and it is a faith in the sense that we have an organized group of beliefs, i.e.:
There is absolutely no God and that all life on this planet is made by complex scientists from another planet called the Elohim (mentioned in the bible and were mistaken for ‘gods’).
We were created to love, be happy and take care of each other.
We must construct a unbiased embassy to welcome back the Elohim so they can share their advanced technology with mankind and help us mend this planet.
“Rael” (Claude Vorilhon) Creator of the Raelian Movement
The movement was founded by Claude Vorilhon, a French journalist and race car driver in 1973 after he’d a string of UFO meetings which he wrote about in a publication called Intelligent Design: Message from the Designers. He’s got other publications as well which can all be downloaded for free at He was instructed to change his name to Rael, which means “last prophet;” thus, “Raelianism.”
There’s a familiar misconception that we’re a “UFO cult.” This may be because lots of photographs of Rael show him with a replica of the UFO he encountered, and a lot of members don’t cut their hair and have been called “hippies. We also don’t worship the leader, nor do we worship UFO’s, Rael or even the Elohim. Rael even warns us not to get overly attached to him and stresses that what’s important is the message, not the messenger.
My first meeting with social nudity was truly at a Raelian self-improvement seminar in Mexico, or Happiness Academy as they are dubbed. Some folks were topless or totally naked during certain workshops and even though I was too timid to join in, I secretly envied their carefree attitude towards nudity. I got as far as going around in my bra for one workshop and that was exciting for me.
But I truly began including it when I was asked to function as the representative for the International Go Topless rally in Pittsburgh, PA, which can be a yearly demonstration Raelians organize all over the world to bring knowledge of women’s topless rights ( . The simple premise is that if guys can be topless in public without getting arrested, girls should enjoy precisely the same constitutional right.

I ‘d already planned on being present at the rally in NYC, where it’s actually legal for women to be completely topless, but hadn’t decided whether I Had take off my top. Thus I needed to get comfortable being topless ASAP! The only one judging me was my dog and I do not think he cared.
I then moved to cleaning in the buff and walking around naked in the house. I found it so enjoyable and realized I didn’t have to place on all the time. I also started to sleep bare. That required some getting used to, but was totally worthwhile. I’m confident you understand the benefits of being unclothed in general but sleeping in the buff tops the list of one of the healthiest things you are able to do for your body.
By the time the Pittsburgh GoTopless rally came along, I really thought I was prepared for public semi-nudity (as I Had just be topless, not fully naked). While most of the reactions were favorable (from men), nothing could prepare me for the impolite reactions and gestures of some people. In Pittsburgh it is prohibited for women to reveal their nipples so I wasn’t 100% exposed. This really is great, I believed! Why don’t more girls embrace being topless? Why don’t they take off those confining and let the boobs respire? That rally was a success and I am certain we planted the seed in some women’s thoughts about including topfreedom.
From that point on, I recognized that I loved being bare and did not care what folks thought. I can not help the way I look and did not ask to be born this way so I can’t let it stop me from experiencing the independence and health benefits that nudity brings.
More about Raelianism: Raelians effort for human rights through a few distinct social justice projects, and Go Topless is only one of them. Others are Clitoraid, which is a charity that offers free surgery for victims of female genital mutilation, Aramis which embraces all types of sexual orientations, Paradism which is a society without money, greed, and authorities thru the promotion of science & technology, 1 Minute for Peace that is meditating one minute as often as possible for world peace as human minds have the ability to influence world events. And finally, the Back to Kama project seeks to bring Kama, which is the first name for Africa before it was colonized, to its formal glory by encouraging investments and jobs there.
